Gay Marriaging the Shit Out of Maine

November 04, 2009

That’s not gonna happen, at least for now. In Maine they voted to repeal the law allowing same-sex marriage, and naturally the religious forces played a big role in this. Why? Because contrary to everything it stands for, religion serves to divide instead of unify.

The Catholic Church was a leading supporter of the repeal campaign, even asking parishes to pass a second collection plate at Sunday Mass to help the cause.

It is times like these that I am extra-super-especially glad I didn’t allow the Catholic Church to be involved in my own marriage (normally I’m just extra-glad). An institution such as that has no business presiding over a unification ceremony–what can it possibly know of such a thing? What insight can it provide?

The Catholic Church, along with less powerful cult organizations, serves as a barrier for love, a dividing line for reason, and a blindfold for its own crimes against humanity. It is an ancient, irrelevant male-dominated clubhouse that ignores its own gayness–overcompensates for its own gayness–by actively campaigning against civil rights. A religion that considers some more equal than others.

And yet, I am going way too easy on them.

Liberal Penises on Parade!

June 25, 2009

I like how Jon Stewart put it: just another politician with a conservative mind and a liberal penis. Can we just stop now and forget about family values as an issue, Republican nutbags? It’s a joke. You can’t get all worked up about Bill Clinton’s penis and then pretend like yours is any different. A liberal penis is a liberal penis, and there isn’t any other kind!

OK, I suppose there may be a few conservative penises out there, but does anyone want anything to do with them? No. Of course not. Don’t be silly. This is why there is so much repression on the right: the conservative mind can’t reconcile the liberal leanings that linger in their pants. Eventually it’s a-gonna burst! And oh, that’s when things get ugly.

Anyway, more good times, nothing like another sex scandal involving a “family values” Republican, it never ends.

Gay Marriaging the Shit Out of It All

July 01, 2008

Yep, we did. It was nice to see that while we were getting married in Mexico, California was allowing gay marriage to same-sex couples, just as Massachusetts has. And California did not fall into the ocean, and somehow the world kept turning. Heterosexual marriages did not turn into gay orgies either, which may bum out Larry Craig, but I’m OK with it so far.

(Craig and the similarly marriage-impaired Republican David Vitter are in charge of ginning up the anti-gay marriage amendment this time around, which is fitting. Good luck guys! With your marriages, I mean.)

Progress comes slowly, but it is coming. Some day we’ll look back on this and it will all seem…quaint.

Room With A View

June 20, 2008

This was my view for a week, every morning when I woke up, and besides spending the first day and night under rainy clouds it was perfect and blue the rest of the time. Beautiful Cancun, muchos gracias! A married man, I am. What a great week it was.

This is part of my extensive wedding preparation activities: The Margarita. This Cabinet of Booze will be on vacation for a while in Mexico, and will return some time in the near future, or whenever the tequila fog lifts. Cheers, everybody!

Equality for Everyone

May 15, 2008

Good for California. I had hoped that by the time I got married (one month away) it would be legal for everyone in America, straight or gay, but that will not be the case. Still, this is positive news. When we look back on this, after it becomes legal across middle America, it will seem silly that it was ever such an issue. The social and religious conservatives will lose this war, like they always do. The sooner the better.
