Speaking of NRO, Sullivan tells the Apologists at The Corner why he calls himself a conservative:
I am proud of that label and appalled by what National Review’s authoritarianism and contempt for individual liberties has done to conservative honor and integrity.
Congrats to Sullivan on his impending marriage, and may we all be free to marry in the near future, without those who call themselves “conservative” imposing on individual liberties as they wish. I don’t agree with the conservative philosophy in principle, but then, it hardly is what it claims to be. Indeed, it seems to never rise above mere politics, pandering to religious nuts and frightened citizens, especially those who live outside the cities that stand as targets. Cowards leaning on crutches with blinders on. Fuck ’em.
