Interesting about Obama’s physical. Dude weighs 179 pounds! That’s pretty thin. I mean, I’m a lot shorter than him and I probably weigh within 30 or so pounds of him. Maybe a little less, I haven’t weighed myself in a long time but I’m gonna guess 145 (I’m on a Wii fitness program, but that’s another story).

And so he has 20/20 vision. It feels like no one has 20/20 vision but maybe that’s just because I’ve had glasses/contacts since the early days of yore. I wonder if Michelle does too. Those 20/20 people need to stick together and perfect our diminishing human eyesight race or we’ll all be blind in a few thousand years. Wait, am I advocating eugenics?!? Ah, we kid, we kid here at the Booze Cabinet…

Still smoking too, I see. Hmm. I really went off the rails on smoking. I was never a smoker but since I spent most of my life in bars with smoke it was no big deal to me. Until now. Since the no smoking laws I have found that smoke really bugs the shit out of me and makes me feel bad. And after experiencing a recent night of being surrounded by a gang of smokers I can’t believe that I put up with the smell on my clothes for all those years. Wow, it makes me want to puke just thinking about it.

The doctors also recommended “moderation of alcohol intake”. What does that mean? This is the best part of the story and that’s all they say about it. Is Obama a boozer? Sounds like the man is throwing them back big-time. Big-time! This is what I like to hear! Ah, I really have to work on my drinking…

The truth is I have barely drank at all this month and it is really hurting my Friday booze pictures. This year, really. I’m like, sober most of the time. And this, the most depressing month of all. Well, I’ll see what I can do about this little problem but I can’t guarantee anything.

That’s right. I was a standby juror for today. Called the number and they said I wasn’t needed. Sweet! Anyway, I wasn’t sure which one of these pix I liked more, so I’m just gonna put ‘em both up. Dos Equis. The old Double X.

Whew! After all that I need a strong one! Here’s a belated Happy New Year martini to wash all of the bile down. Watch for playoff football helmet action coming soon, maybe even a rare weekend update, if I’m not too busy trying to save the world.

It’s unlikely that I’ll be posting again this year, barring any unforeseen breaking news of importance, such as last night’s game. I had all the voodoo working, with Obama trying on the helmet and then not being able to fit it on because his ears were too big, and then the Old Style instead of the Stella, and well, you get the picture. It worked of course, because that’s how things go in my universe. Not really, but I was having fun anyway. What a game! Ridiculous. Had a feeling all along they were gonna pull this one out. Especially right after they missed the field goal in OT.

Anyway, screw 2009, it wasn’t nearly as cool as 2008, but it was alright. As far as decades go…not bad. The 70s were pretty good but other than that I suppose the 00s did okay. Except for all that war, politics and other bullshit. Christ, what a disaster! Bring on a fresh new decade please! One with helmets and Old Style and football…just like the 70s.

A delicious pint o’ Guinness!

Yes, those are my ancient Docs standing guard over a Tecate disguised in a Pabst Blue Ribbon glass. A few stories here. First, the Docs: they have reached their end. It is sad, and I would have kept them on my feet but it was insisted that I replace them with new ones. Insisted. As in, throw them away. They’ve been around since the early 90’s and they’ve seen a lot. Many Lollapaloozas and certainly many grunge-era shows. Too many Pearl Jam shows to count, but also those heady days at Lounge Ax and Metro, when there seemed to be a great show every week, every night, somewhere. But I was still wearing them to the end, just a few holes here and there, what’s the big deal?

So, they have been replaced. Pretty much the same exact shoe, so it’s like they never left. The PBR glass was a gift this year, and a nice one indeed. And while I often turn my nose up at the beer, I found myself drinking it Wednesday night at Liar’s Club, because, well, it was free. Band beer. Cans. What the hell?

No, it did not treat me any better than it normally does, the PBR, but I got through it, and it saved me some dough. At home though, I can put whatever I want into that glass, and it looks just perfect. I am a strange kind of beer snob: I don’t like the shitty beers but I also don’t very much like the fancy schmancy ones either. Not big on microbrews and can’t stand the Goose Islands and Sam Adams. I don’t know. I love Mexican beer. And Belgian beer. And Guinness. Hey, man, what can I tell you? It’s a mystery. And it’s become more about avoiding the hangover now, now more than ever! Damn this alcohol…

I saw this one sitting there in the archives and could not believe I never posted it. A classic! This was taken at the Congress Hotel during Lollapalooza this summer. Oh, what a glorious time it was.

This is the old Sacred Cow, an IPA from Ann Arbor, along with some Frosted Mini-Wheats. A delicious and nutritious breakfast combo!
