Wow. It’s been a crazy month of June, and apparently today is the last day. It feels as if I’ve spent the entire month celebrating (because I have!). A week in Mexico and then the Chicago reception last Saturday night, and now it is all finally over. And then, depression sets in…

One thing is for sure, we left no stone unturned in the quest for a party. My sincere thanks to everyone who was a part of it. My most muchos of gracias.

I see that they re-ran the very first episode of “Saturday Night Live” this weekend with George Carlin as host (I was a little busy to be watching). I would like to see that sometime. The first-ever sketch on that show inspired some lyrics for a Milk at Midnight song, “The Leaning Tower of Astigmatism.” John Belushi and Michael O’Donoghue (both dead now) perform a bizarre scene in which O’Donoghue teaches Belushi to speak English with the words “I would like to feed your fingertips to the wolverines.”

It’s that kind of twisted magic that you just can’t find on the show today. Click the link on that article to see all the dead people that were on that first show.

I am still waiting to hear of heroic tales from gun-toting citizens defending themselves, but it’s never hard to find one of these stories:

A 3-year-old Joliet boy died Wednesday afternoon after a loaded handgun he was playing with went off in his home on the city’s east side.

The Supreme Court decision will have no impact on this family.

McCain thinks Chicago needs more guns. The city is infringing the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms! What a dumbass. He should talk to Daley.

Can everyone in the news media/blog world/universe please stop with the “throwing under the bus” thing? Christ, if I hear that one more time…I’m gonna throw someone under a bus!

Do you own a turntable? Does it work? Well, you should get one, or get it fixed! Listened to the test pressing of our new record (album! vinyl!) last night and it sounds great, the way it should be, the way it was meant to be. Yeah, we’ll have digital downloads too, but I’m just sayin’…all that talk about warmth–it’s true. It’s true!

“Less Love More Acid” should be out sometime before the eagle has crashed into the mountain. Stay tuned…

As a young youngster I listened to tapes of George Carlin (8-tracks?) and I’m sure I didn’t get it–most of it–but he talked about farts, and I loved that (it was this one–side two, track three: “Cute Little Farts”). This was long before I would find his brilliant “Religion is bullshit” routine, or any of his more recent rants against the political idiocy of our time.

I recently finished reading Steve Martin’s latest book, Born Standing Up, and it makes me appreciate even more these hilarious people whose record albums I listened to growing up and the concert films and movies I watched (Cheech & Chong, Richard Pryor, etc.). Funny, funny stuff.

R.I.P. George Carlin, ye shall be missed.

Reality is a strange bird to come back to.

This was my view for a week, every morning when I woke up, and besides spending the first day and night under rainy clouds it was perfect and blue the rest of the time. Beautiful Cancun, muchos gracias! A married man, I am. What a great week it was.

This is part of my extensive wedding preparation activities: The Margarita. This Cabinet of Booze will be on vacation for a while in Mexico, and will return some time in the near future, or whenever the tequila fog lifts. Cheers, everybody!
