Progress in Other Places

Cheers to grand old Ireland. From Sullivan:
This overwhelmingly Catholic country adopts civil equality for gay couples. The Church’s influence has collapsed after the sex abuse crisis. And deservedly so.
So. What is wrong with the Catholic Church in America? Oh, don’t get me started!

I am Irish, I am gay, I am not Catholic, I lve in a secular Republic. I would really appreaciate it, if ‘outsiders’ would stop excluding me from something that other Irish people have never tried to do, on the basis of my beliefs.
Overwhelming Catholic my eye! If you want to see how ‘Catholic’ Ireland is in modern times, go to any club in Dublin city centre on most nights of the week, go to the decorative and ornate Mosque in Clonskeagh, or go to any university campus around the country.
Ireland has moved on. If only external perceptions could do the same.
